BORDER CROSSING TIPS

Greetings! The National Amateur Chicken Championship was first run in 1967 on the natural grasslands of the Gleichen Indian Reservation. But, since about 1982 this Championship, together with the companion Region 14 All Age Championship, has moved to Mortlach where the vastness of the landscape with far reaching chicken objectives now hosts the Saskatchewan Championship, the Dominion Championship, the National Amateur Chicken Championship, and the Region 14 All Age Championship.

Dr. Charles Hjerpe has recently written an article for the American Field about current health restrictions in bringing horses over the border. I case you missed that article here is a link to it for reading   Canadian Horse Papers

You have our special invitation - come.

The border will not be a problem if you keep the following in mind:

  • As of June 1 2009 a passport is required for re-entry into the USA;

  • For horses,a coggins test and a good health certificate less than 30 days old and counter-signed by both your private vet and your USDA vet;
  • All questions about horses, phone Dr. Delbir Hans at (306) 927-2255

  • For dogs, have rabies certificate in the last 36 months;

  • Blank pistols are not firearms but could be detemined to be a the replicate firearms by individual border guards and not permitted into Canada. Blanks pistols will be available for those not wanting to test the canadian border.
  • North Portal is open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year;
  • For Championships: blank ammo & solid barrel guns only (.32 cal or larger or 209 primers)
  • If you have immigration questions, talk to Wayne Brown at (306) 927-2335
    or email: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
  • To bring a horse across the border this spring you are required to have an approved US vet. signed form USDA 17-145 which is good for crossing back and forth across the border for 30 days which is good at any border crossing and does not require a vet to be present to check the horse out at the time of crossing. This information was provided by Dr. Peter Kelly who is the Coutts/Sweetgrass Canadian Border Vet.
