DOG OF THE YEAR AWARDS
AMENDMENTS TO REGION'S 1997 RESOLUTION
CURRENT TO JANUARY 18, 2003

The Region 14 Amateur Championship Association will annually name a Puppy, Derby (All Age Standards), Derby (Shooting Dog Standards), Shooting Dog, and All Age Dog of the Year for those dogs running in trials of a continuous course venue. Further to this, the Puppy, Derby and Shooting Dog of the Year for those dogs run in trials of a single course venue.
The Ray Abercrombie Trophy for the Overall Top Point Dog will be awarded to the owner of the dog that garners the most total points in trials in Region 14.
1. Eligibility for dog of the year points is open to members of clubs in good standing in Region 14 and affiliated with AFTCA.
2. Awards will be based on points earned for placements in amateur stakes in trials sanctioned by the AFTCA, sponsored by member clubs in good standing, and held within the geographical boundaries of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Montana.
3. In a open stake where no money is paid, and the dog is handled by an Amateur, points earned can be used toward Dog of the Year awards for Region 14.
4. Points will be determined from the official results published in The American Field or the copies of the essential data sheets.
5. Awards are made to each category based on the following point system: 1st Place -- 3 plus 50% of the number of dogs entered 2nd Place -- 2 plus 30% of the number of dogs entered 3rd Place -- 1 plus 20% of the number of dogs entered Points for the winner or runners-up in the Regional Championships will be doubled. Points for the winner or runners-up of the National Amateur Chicken Championship, if held within our Region, will be quadrupled. Points for all other one hour stakes are to be multiplied by 1.5.
6. The officers of this association (Region 14) shall have the final decision with respect to the interpretation of these rules.
7. In the case of a tie in any category a keeper trophy is given to each winner, and the revolving trophy is shared.
8. Points cannot be earned in trials which do not meet the following requirements:
8.1 The draw cannot be made sooner than 5 clear days (i.e., Sunday for a Saturday trial) before running;
8.2 The date, time and place of the draw must be received by the Region 14 website adminstrator and Region secretary 30 days prior to draw with posting date.
8.3 And, all entries timely proffered by a member of a club in Region 14 must be in the draw, fairly held;
8.4 Or, if the draw is subject to an entry limit, the entries will only be accepted during an announced interval starting not sooner than 14 days after the premium list has been mailed, e-mailed, or posted on the Region website and ending on the announced date, and all entries must be made by dated mail, E-mail, or FAX and accepted on a first come basis.
8.5 In the event of a trial cancellation, the original entry format will stand and the new trial will run on previous rules.
8.6 All stakes (except AFTCA and CKC Championships) and in which the entries are limited (Breed, qualifications, prior wins, etc.) must have the trial approved at the annual meeting or by the Region Executive at least 30 days before the trial. (Added January 21, 2006).
9.0 To qualify as Dog of the Year, the dog must be registered by a recognized registry, i.e. Field Stud Book, AKC, CKC, etc., exception being the pups run in a Puppy Stake.
